Dorset poetry walks and workshops

FREE series of gentle poetry walks and workshops connecting creativity to nature in Dorset parks and green spaces. These are run through the Stepping into Nature programme, Dorset AONB. The activities are open to everyone, and suited to adults and older people, and those living with dementia and their carers to access and enjoy our beautiful Dorset landscape, wildlife and culture.

You will find community, inspiration and well-being spending a morning outdoors and thinking about poetry, reflecting on the landscape and writing your own words. With readings, discussion and brief writing exercises suitable for all ages and abilities.

All walks are 10am-11.30am and all workshops 10am-12pm.

Booking is essential for each.

Workshops WEYMOUTH Nothe Fort – 19th June/ 10th July/ 11th Sept

meet outside the main entrance to Nothe Fort at 10am, and if you are running late you will find us in the Engine Room downstairs, Nothe Fort staff will help you find the way into the main courtyard and downstairs via stairs or lift access. Parking and toilets available at Nothe Fort public car park.

Workshops DORCHESTER Borough Gardens House – 2nd May/ 11th June/ 18th Sept

meet in the Community Room at Borough Gardens House in Borough Gardens Park, it is on the ground floor accessible from the park at the back of the tennis courts. Parking available near by at the Top-O-Town and Fairfield car parks.

Walks BRIDPORT Mountfield – 29th April/ 29th July

meet at the main entrace to the gardens in Rax Lane with the main house and gardens directly in front of you. Parking at Wykes Court public car park, Rax Lane. Toilets available in the Council offices, Mountfield.

Walks BRIDPORT Community Orchard– 24th June/ 30th Sept

-meet at the top entrance to the orchard, from South Street go through the back of St Mary’s churchyard. Parking and toilets at South Street public car park.

Walks WEYMOUTH – Sandsfoot Gardens – 30th April/ 30th May/ 25th June

meet at the main entrance to the Sandsfoot Gardens park with the castle directly in front of you where the photo is taken in the event poster/image. Parking on the road, toilets available at the park cafe.

Walk PORTLAND – Victoria Gardens 22nd May/ East Gardens3rd Sept

for Victopria Gardens meet under the wrought iron ‘Victoria Gardens’ entrance arch at the bottom of the park

for Easton Gardens meet at the main entrance gate diretctly opposite the co-op entrance

Parking for both on the street.

Walk WAREHAM Quay/ends Library Garden– 14th May / 3rd July/ 25th Sept

meet at the entrance to the Priory meadow across the bridge from Wareham Quay carpark, you will see this easily from the car park, it is not far. We end the walk in the Wareham Library Gardens, which is also near the Quayside car park (public toilets available).
