History Club at Tolpuddle Old Chapel; everyday heritage celebrating rural working class histories

Our (Reimagining) History Club was formed as part of the Tolpuddle Family Lives project and ran April to July – we are a group of researchers and local historians with a shared interest and passion for everyday working class lives in rural Dorset. We explore lost names, hidden stories and memories in local history through oral histories, family histories, archival research, documents, objects and creative discussion. This exhibition is a taste of what we have been discovering and stories we are enjoying. We hope to continue into Autumn and beyond.

So far our History Club has explored themes of The Old Chapel in its early everyday use; women and homes, communications, schools and childhood, births deaths and health, and folklore. The exhibition you see here are objects assembled creatively from our Women and Homes and Childhood weeks. Anyone is welcome to join History Club, please talk to the TOCT about upcoming events.
